The Boss Chick Dance Workout

empowering women through twerk

The new year is just moments away, and if you are looking to dive head first into your 2022 resolution for health and empowerment, The Boss Chick Dance Workout (BCDW) is the perfect starting point. Created in 2013 in Miami, Florida by Simone Sobers, BCDW has grown into a global empire and takes the title of the first all-female global twerk fitness brand. The brand is rooted in body-positivity and the empowerment of women through twerk, the celebration of Black, African, and Caribbean dance styles and history.

“The Boss Chick Dance Workout is a women's only twerk fitness brand created originally with the intent for women (specifically BIPOC women) to have a space that was intentional about serving their needs for cultural representation in dance, music and movement, and diversity in body types in the fitness space,” Sobers tells BLK Oceans.

If you are skeptical about the power of twerk to get in shape, just one BCDW class can have you burning upwards of 400 calories per twerkout. The best part? Dancing to your favorite tracks until your thighs burn will feel more like a celebration of movement and bodily freedom than a workout.

Though classes are designed for all levels of twerk experience, if you are a first timer when it comes to twerking, BCDW recently rolled out a new format, Beginner's Twerk Cardio, designed for those who are brand new to dance fitness.
