The brand elle west was developed with a few things in heart and in mind. Founder Chanel Rene wanted to create something for herself, something she developed from start to finish that presented a clear vision and message to the world. She wanted to feed her candle obsession and her love for the way candles can transform a space and emanate the perfect vibe. Lastly, she was determined to establish a legacy her daughter, Elle West, could carry on.

I connected with Rene to learn more about her growing business and the inspiration behind her vibe-setting, hand poured collection of candles.

What sets elle west apart from other candle brands?

We are truly all about ‘setting a vibe aside.’ I touch every single candle that goes out of our home and into the safe spaces of our customers. When I make our candles, I make sure that my energy is in the best place possible, so that whatever energy I transfer is positive and with good intentions.

We are in full force behind the scenes. Everything we do is in-house, from our shoots to design, scent testing, literally everything. The creative behind elle west is organic, the messaging is clear, the vibes are always felt, and our intentions are set and pure. The vibes we set aside are for you and only you. Our customers feel that, and we work very hard to make sure they do.

Where do you draw your inspiration for each new scent?

I wanted our scents to be simple but elevated and scents that just make you feel good. Our scents are essential oil based with the addition of fragrance oils to add to the scent throw. Infusing hemp, utilizing essential oils, creates a cleaner burn when our candles are lit.

What makes each scent unique?

Our scent ‘dazed’ has been our top seller since day one. The scent isn't that sweet lemon drop smell. It has a lemon base, but it is more raw. It also has an airy but very strong note of eucalyptus.

Another top seller is ‘soft strong’ because I think most people gravitate towards vanilla in a candle. Pairing vanilla with frankincense really levels out the sweetness and gives it a soft but not overbearing strength.

Our ‘prodigal human’ candle doesn't have that "typical" lavender scent. It's a bit more raw, and you can just smell that the sweet note is natural. The jasmine in it adds a soft perfume feel.
