The journey of Kamso Kids started when Founder Seyi Sokoya graduated from college. Like many recent graduates, she was trying to navigate her next move. However, she also needed to support her young child.

When buying children’s clothing, she noticed few items on the shelves mirrored her African heritage. She wished her child and other children could find African inspired clothing that could easily integrate into their wardrobes and was also ethically made by African people. This sparked the idea to create Kamso Kids.

Sokoya travelled with her son to Nigeria where her mother lives and met with talented artisans. It was here that her future began to take shape.

“I truly would love Kamso to be in the forefront of innovatively using African craftsmanship to create magical clothing, accessories, and eventually homeware,” Sokoya reflects. “There is a wealth of resources in Africa that should not be ignored, we have found by working with local artisans and paying them fairly, we are able to sow back into impoverished communities and hopefully in time positively impact their lives.”

Today, the online shop displays a variety of unique styles and prints, resulting in irresistible outfits for children. The printed shorts are one of the most popular summer items and the embroidered Kamso sets are an autumnal staple. For babies, many mothers love the bloomers and rompers, specifically the Kaima Romper.

“Kamso is unique in the kids/baby clothing market because we weave traditional African heritage and ethical style in a way that has not been done before,” says Sokoya. “Our prints and authentic designs are durable and versatile, with many of our pieces being gender neutral.”

The coming months promise some exciting growth for the brand. The month of October is Black History Month in the U.K, and the first of the month is Nigerian Independence Day. To celebrate, Kamso Kids will be releasing a beautiful collection, where Nigeria's rich history collides with the modern day.

“I think the most exciting and important thing to expect is our studio that we will be setting up in Nigeria,” shares Sokoya. “This will be our artisanal hub, which will have an apprenticeship linked to it. Not only is this monumental for us, it will also be a great space for our artisans, where they can work in safe conditions, continue being paid a fair wage and are provided with meals throughout their work day.”
